Diwan Alomran Contributes to an International Study on Gender Inequality in Access to Housing

As part of International Women’s Month 2026, Diwan Alomran is pleased to announce its participation, alongside the Intersection Association for Rights and Freedoms and in collaboration with the Habitat International Coalition (HIC), in the preparation of the international study entitled “Cities as a Factor of Inequalities: Survival in the Global North and South from a Gender Perspective,” published by Observatori DESCA for Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Rights in Barcelona.

Diwan Alomran contributed to the study by providing a case study from Egypt examining the impact of the gender wage gap on women’s ability to access adequate housing. The study shows how wage disparities limit women’s opportunities to secure safe and stable housing, particularly in the context of rising housing costs and weak social protection policies related to housing.

The study also highlights the relationship between gender justice and the right to housing, demonstrating how economic inequalities between women and men can become structural barriers that hinder women’s ability to fully exercise their right to the city and to adequate housing, ultimately restricting access to a fundamental human right.

The report includes comparative case studies from different regions of the world, including the Middle East and North Africa, Latin America, and Europe, aiming to analyze the gender dimensions of urban inequalities and promote policies that ensure equitable access to housing.

In this context, an international session to discuss the report will be held as part of the 70th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, at 4:00 PM Cairo time. Participants can join the discussion by registering through the provided link.

This participation reflects Diwan Alomran’s commitment to supporting knowledge and policies that promote urban justice, gender equality, and the right to housing in the region.
