{"id":5196,"date":"2025-04-26T15:07:32","date_gmt":"2025-04-26T15:07:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diwanalomran.com\/?p=5196"},"modified":"2025-08-13T10:28:36","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T10:28:36","slug":"al-zilzal-informal-street-market-mokattam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diwanalomran.com\/en\/al-zilzal-informal-street-market-mokattam\/","title":{"rendered":"Al-Zilzal Informal Street Market &#8211; Mokattam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\" data-start=\"93\" data-end=\"482\"><strong data-start=\"93\" data-end=\"118\">The Cairo Governorate<\/strong> carried out the demolition of <strong data-start=\"149\" data-end=\"185\">Al-Zilzal Informal Street Market<\/strong> in the Mokattam area on Friday, April 26, 2025, as part of its plan to regulate informal markets in the district.<br data-start=\"299\" data-end=\"302\" \/>The demolition was overseen by Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Deputy Governor of Cairo for the Southern Area, with the participation of several governorate leaders and executive authorities.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\" data-start=\"484\" data-end=\"778\">According to the Cairo Governorate, the removal came after years of the market\u2019s unregulated presence, its failure to meet health and safety requirements, and the environmental hazards caused by random electrical connections, which posed a direct threat to the site and surrounding residents.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\" data-start=\"780\" data-end=\"1020\">Despite the informal nature of Al-Zilzal Street Market, the <strong data-start=\"840\" data-end=\"857\">Diwan Alomran<\/strong> team spoke with several Mokattam residents, who said the market had provided them with goods\u2014especially vegetables\u2014at lower prices than other shops in Mokattam.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\" data-start=\"1022\" data-end=\"1307\">In March 2025, the governorate began delivering the first batch of contracts for new shops to the vendors slated for relocation from Al-Zilzal Informal Street Market to newly established alternative markets in Mokattam: <strong data-start=\"1242\" data-end=\"1269\">Ammar Ibn Yasser Market<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1274\" data-end=\"1304\">Abdel Majid Mahmoud Market<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\" data-start=\"1309\" data-end=\"1691\">Ammar Ibn Yasser Market spans <strong data-start=\"1339\" data-end=\"1352\">5 feddans<\/strong> and includes <strong data-start=\"1366\" data-end=\"1378\">95 shops<\/strong> of 18 m\u00b2 each, offering activities such as selling fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, poultry, groceries, spices, eggs, baked goods, grilled foods, cleaning products, and plastics. The market also features <strong data-start=\"1585\" data-end=\"1599\">4 bakeries<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1601\" data-end=\"1621\">20 outdoor shops<\/strong>, a cafeteria, <strong data-start=\"1636\" data-end=\"1648\">2 grills<\/strong>, a shaded area, and <strong data-start=\"1669\" data-end=\"1688\">5 parking zones<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\" data-start=\"1693\" data-end=\"1940\">Abdel Majid Mahmoud Market consists of <strong data-start=\"1732\" data-end=\"1754\">4 commercial malls<\/strong> housing <strong data-start=\"1763\" data-end=\"1776\">222 shops<\/strong> and a cafeteria.
