Al-Firdous Tourist Village, Port Said Governorate

Area Name:
Al-Firdous Tourist Village

Geographical Location:
Located west of Port Said Governorate, within the West Port Said area, approximately 5 kilometers from the city center, adjacent to the Mediterranean Sea coastline.

Date of Forced Eviction Commencement:
Forced eviction operations began on 6 May 2025, following prior eviction notices served to residents.

In a shocking scene during the early hours of Tuesday, 6 May 2025, residents of Al-Firdous Village, west of Port Said, were confronted by a large-scale security operation involving armored vehicles and Central Security trucks from the Port Said, Suez, and Ismailia Security Directorates. These forces were deployed to secure demolition equipment — including loaders and bulldozers — which began dismantling administrative buildings and service facilities in the village.

Amid residents’ pleas, Major General Tamer El-Samry, Port Said’s Director of Security and head of the campaign, announced a 72-hour grace period to vacate residential units before demolitions would commence. However, according to residents’ testimonies, the campaign began demolishing several privately-owned buildings — including those permanently inhabited — on the morning of Wednesday, 7 May, without waiting for the grace period to end.

Key Actors:

  • Port Said Governorate

  • New Urban Communities Authority

  • Ministry of Interior (security forces responsible for enforcing the eviction)

  • Prime Minister’s Office (issued directives for implementation)

  • General Organization for Physical Planning (responsible for planning and reviewing proposals)

  • Security forces and alleged non-state actors (“thugs,” according to residents’ accounts)

The master plan includes residential, industrial, and tourism zones.
The area is being replanned as part of the National Urban Development Strategy.
Additionally, 462 feddans were transferred from the General Authority for Fish Resources Development in favor of the project.
